As a collector, there are very few cards that make our hearts skip a beat when we first see them for sale. I can remember seeing the Alex Rodriguez Quantum Leap for sale back in 2019, which had been my most wanted card for years. Working that deal out with the seller, then sending them a video thanking them just made that experience THAT much better. Since then, I have not had that same feeling. While I've picked up monumental Marc-Andre Fleury cards that I love absolutely, finding that rare card that's popped up for sale and thinking about it throughout your work day hasn't happened since the A-Rod Quantum. Fast forward to two weeks ago, and my phone starts blowing up with message from Billy Hausman and my fellow roundtable mates Mitch, Reid, and Trevor, and other good friends I've made on Instagram. They were all messaging about a card that's sat atop my most wanted list for the better part of 2 years. And thanks to my family and friends for helping, I was able to add it. The seller is actually on Instagram as well which made communicating so much easier. Max did me a big solid and sent it express so the card got to me in a week from Canada! Can't thank you enough man! Here it is in all it's glory: Having an autograph with both of Fleury's idols growing up along with Flower himself is truly a once in a lifetime card. They don't share many autographed cards together, and this is arguably the nicest of them all. YES!
This got me thinking....does this card belong on my Mt. Rushmore of cards, and what are the other 3? I feel like this is a question that should be answered quickly and not something that we deliberate over. Go with what your heart says, and that's exactly what I did. I present to you, my Mt. Rushmore of Marc-Andre Fleury cards in my collection:

Well....safe to say this was not the way me or any Fleury fan for that matter envisioned the season ending. not only did the Wild exit in the 1st round for the third time in a row, but Fleury played very little. Why he didn't start game 6 who knows, but he should have.
In all, Flowers season had some ups and downs, and his final stat line reads as such: 24 Wins 16 Losses 4 OT Losses 2 Shutouts 2.85 GAA .908 Save % He now sits 7 wins shy of tying Patrick Roy for 2nd All-Time in Wins, and 8 from passing him (that's Elementary Teacher expertise right there!) My only wish for his final season is that he gets to play in Pittsburgh where it all started. A new GM COULD certainly make that happen. Will it happen...not likely. But one can hope can't they? From a collecting standpoint, let's hope that this lowers his prices a bit during the offseason. With OPC Platinum, Stature, and ICE yet to come out from 2021-22, there should be a few cards to chase of Fleury, not to mention Extended. The Jefferson collection is also completely updated and scanned in, along with all the Final Fantasy TCG cards (11 total) that are in the collection now. Plus there is a major Fleury addition on the way which I will write about once it arrives. This summer is going to be about being patient for the Fleury's on the current wantlist, slowly adding to the Jefferson and FFTCG collections, and getting the entire Glasnow collection scanned in. There are also bound to be some really nice Jefferson case hit inserts arriving on scene during the summer. Excited to share those too once they arrive. First order of Business, to get the Curio Cabinet lighting put in there! I'll leave you with a rainbow I completed (minus the retail purple which isn't out yet): As of tonight, I am finishing fighting this 3rd cold of 2023 off. But I have used that time to work hard on the design of the website! What do you think so far? I have updated all the banners, uploaded all of the Marc-Andre Fleury & Justin Jefferson cards to their respective pages! You may also notice that the Glasnow page is still under construction. I have over 700 unique Glasnow cards to scan so that's going to take some time. But I am excited to get them all uploaded in the near future once he comes back to pitch. My latest hobby endeavor is all thanks to my buddy Rob aka @zomdos_collectibles on Instagram. Over two years ago he helped me add this card to my collection: 2003 Black Diamond Emerald Rookie /100After that deal went through smoothly, he posted a card from the Final Fantasy Trading Card Game of Cloud Strife, who was my favorite character when I played Final Fantasy 7 back in Middle School. I remember it has THREE discs in one case. Crazy stuff back then on the original Playstation.
Fast forward to last weekend and while talking to my buddy Justin, I saw the same card for sale at an amazing price. It is currently due in Sitka Monday. I don't plan on playing the trading card game but I do plan on getting the next FF7 remake that's coming out later this year on PS5. Variety really is the spice of life and adding a few of my favorite designs from the FFTCG will make it a slow burn and yet just a beautiful as collecting Flower, Glasnow, or J-Jet! Below is an example of two different Final Fantasy Cards, the first being the one that brought me to the FFTCG side. |
